Well, it won't be plug and play so to speak, but if you are careful, you should be able to use all of your preamp stuff from the old amp (I'm assuming it works), then put in a LM4780 for 100w of power.  You can buy a PCB for that at chipamp.com, but if you wait a little while I might be able to get you one just for the cost of shipping.  Brian is sending me some to distribute here.

Looks like this is going to be one of the coolest preamps ever, and I won it!

I've heard some sound clips of the real mctube, and while it is good, it doesn't seem as amazing as people make it out to be.

Amplifier Discussion / Re: 50 watt or so bass amp

I will admit that a 200w minimum or so amp is the way to go if you have to keep up with a band *easily*.  That way you can power a 1x15 and a 4x10.  To use a 50w bass amp it will only keep up with light guitar/vocals/drums.

If we are talking RMS 50w will do it.  My brother uses a SS Sunn amp that is 50w with a 15" EV2 speaker, it keeps up with a whole band, you just have to crank it up to 3/4 volume or so.

I don't have the money for it, but it'd be perfect for a chip amp application!

Do you still have it?

I've been thinking about trying to find a preamp, but if you buy them new they seem pretty pricey.  Anyone have any luck with using a preamp to a power amp?  IE - Dean Markley (or any other brand) preamp to PA or something?

I don't think its a new layout, I think for that one he is just interested to see how well it works in a guitar amp application.

The big thing is the transformer and the heatsink.  After that just a pot for volume control, and some jacks on the back to hook up the speakers.

Looks nice and easy.

Well, it is a quick build if that matters at all.  My lm3886 took me only a few hours to get everything together.  Also, it seems I may be getting some lm3875s instead of lm4780s, Brian isn't sure what he wants to give me yet.  Like I said, I will know for sure when the kits come in.  All you would have to pay is shipping.

I'm sure he would put your amp(s) in the gallery if thats what you mean.
